GEODYNAMIC EVOLUTION OF THE TERRESTRIAL PLANETS AND COMPARATIVE PLANETOLOGY

The different geologic process that have shaped the Surface of the earth can also operate in other terrestrial planets. Planets like Venus and Mars present an important record of tectonism and volcanism but in a stagnant-lid regime, that is, in absence of plate tectonics. The study of volcanism and tectonic activity in these other terrestrial planets allows us to study these processes in a different context (e.g. different environmental conditions, gravity) and compare the effect of this context in the final result. Each planets are a geodynamic laboratory were to test models and working hypothesis and compare them with their terrestrial analogues.
