VOLCANO DEFORMATION AND INSTABILITY

An aspect of special interest for us in volcanic evolution is the study of the deformation processes affecting volcanoes and compromising their structural stability. We approach this research with a multidisciplinary methodology integrating field geological data of both active and eroded volcanoes with information from remote sensing or petrology. In addition, we perform analogue models of intrusive and tectonics processes affecting volcanoes in our new laboratory at URJC (LabMoA). GIS (including 3D analysis) and image processing techniques (including InSAR) are also fundamental tools for our research, available at our Remote Sensing laboratory (LabTEP). Our current fieldwork is focussed in Canary Islands, mainly at volcanic edifices of Tenerife and La Gomera.
